Yes, this is the middle of nowhere. However... contrary to popular belief, there's plenty of entertainment available! From a relaxing nap on the beach, to a challenging hike, to a soaking trip in a whitewater raft - adventure awaits in the woods of northern Maine. So if you're planning on making a weekend trip out of it, check out some of these options.
Let's start with the obvious choice. Baxter State Park contains 204,733 acres of wild Maine, with over 200 miles of hiking trails, 46 mountains and ridges, countless lakes and streams, and more wildlife than you can shake a stick at. The poular destination for many visitors is the summit of Mt. Katahdin, 5,267 feet above sea level, but there are many other less-strenuous and equally splendid hikes available.
Also nearby the wedding site is the west branch of the Penobscot River, where you can find some of the best whitewater rafting, kayaking, and fishing in the state. There are several rafting companies that will take you out on a day-long trip!
